Simple Healthy Eating Guidelines that will Improve Your Life

With a world full of frozen, processed, chemically grown food, and corporations with large budgets to convince you that their products are healthy, we can all use some healthy eating guidelines to keep from going insane.

1. Remove high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and modified corn starch from your diet.
These artificial ingredients are extremely hard for your body to break down and they have no nutritional value. They preserve the food they are in which means it's harder for the earth to break down; food that's harder to break down takes more energy for your body to digest.

The more energy your body spends on digestion, the less energy your body has to give to your immune system, your brain, your heart, and your muscles. This lack of energy results in you feeling lazy and getting sick more often than you should. Removing these and other preservatives from your diet is a walk in the park for some and rather difficult for others. Just remember to take little steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

Be sure to read the labels of everything you buy! Anything that you don't know how to pronounce is a preservative!

2. Substitute refined sugar for agave or raw honey.
Refined sugar means any kind of sugar that is extracted out of its natural form. Sugar found in fruit and raw honey is extremely healthy for you because of all the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes that come with it. When you use pure white or brown sugar, you are getting none of the benefits and all of the problems. Without the digestive enzymes present your body digests the sugar all at once, spiking your blood sugar. Mass consumption of refined sugar is a leading cause in diabetes and obesity.

If you want to follow these healthy eating guidelines, substitute agave raw honey for sugar in all of your recipes. Not only do these natural sweeteners taste better, but they come with nutrients and enzymes to help digestion and keep your body healthy.

3. Eat lot's of whole food meals mostly, or entirely, made up of fruits and vegetables.
Our body is made to consume a diet mostly made up of fruits and vegetables, we are natural herbivores. For breakfast, fill up on an all fruit meal or a green smoothie. For lunch or dinner, try eating a huge salad with some sunflower seeds sprinkled on. When your diet is mainly fruits and vegetables, it is nearly impossible to overeat. Because of all the water they contain, your stomach just isn't large enough to fit more than a healthy amount of fruit or vegetables.

If you listen to the healthy eating guidelines of the status quo, I'm sure you will hear people say that we need about 8 glasses of water a day for optimal functioning. Imagine getting this much clean water in nature without modern day conveniences. How would you do it? You would have to get your water from food. To see how much more water is in equal calories of chicken and lettuce, click here. When you eat high quantities of fruits and vegetables you will not need to drink as much water. If your pee makes the toilet water yellow, your body needs more water.

4. Reduce animal foods from your diet.
As a country becomes wealthier, it tends to consume more animal foods. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune deficiency syndromes, and other diseases of affluence are directly correlated with increased consumption of animal foods. If you don't believe me, click here. Meat is ingrained into the American culture as both necessary and manly, but there is really NOTHING in meat that we can't get from a more natural source. If we were meant to eat meat, why do we have to cook it? If you ate all your meat raw, I guarantee you would not eat nearly as much.

If removing all animal foods from your diet at once seems too drastic, start with baby steps. Committing to going a week without eating beef will help you realize how easy it can be and how much better you feel without it. Animal foods listed from the most to least destructive are: beef, pork, poultry (chicken and turkey), fish, pasteurized cheese and milk, eggs, raw cheese and milk.

5. Eat as much organic food as your wallet allows.
When chemicals are used to grow food, the soil is destroyed. Without proper soil plants are unable to produce normal amounts of nutrients; they would show their nutrient deficiencies if it weren't for chemicals enhancing the way they look, too. Natural, organic green foods have more nutrients and less toxins. If you're eating healthy on a budget, buying produce from your local farmer's market is a much cheaper alternative to grocery and health food stores.

6. Substitute whole wheat flour and brown rice for their bleached alternatives.
When grains are bleached, they lose most of their nutrients. In a study done on rats mentioned in Dr. Weston Price's book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, rats grown on whole wheat were healthy, while rats grown on white flour were undersized, had tooth decay, were unable to reproduce, and had hostile tendencies. It is not hard to extrapolate the effects of processed food on rats to their effect on humans.

7. Consume as many raw foods as possible.
Raw foods contain 50-80% more nutrients than their cooked counterparts. But more importantly, they contain ALL of their digestive enzymes. When we eat food that has been cooked, our bodies have to supply our own enzymes for digestion. Not only does this unnecessary process waste a bunch of energy, it is believed that our body only has a limited number of these enzymes. In this respect, cooking food will shorten your life.

8. Drink water when you're thirsty!
When you're hungry eat food or drink juice. When you're thirsty drink water! When you're body says it's thirsty, it doesn't need any calories. It's common for people to misinterpret thirst for hunger. Water fasting has helped me notice this distinction.

If you're pee makes the water in the toilet even a little yellow, you're body is not well hydrated. It is very common in this day in age for people to be dehydrated all the time. If you ever get hungover it's because you are dehydrated. Drinking a good amount of water before, during, and after drinking alcohol will help you feel good the next day.

Following these healthy eating guidelines will help prevent illness and disease and give you an abundance of energy, love, and happiness. Although eating healthy will bring positive changes to your life, you cannot eat your way to God.
