Raw Homemade Applesauce Recipe
This raw homemade applesauce recipe is cheaper, healthier, AND tastes better than store-bought or cooked applesauce. There's no need to boil or peel the apples and loose all the wonderful nutrients they contain! This is easiest to do with a food processor, but a potato masher will get the job done, too, you just need a little elbow grease.
Making your own applesauce is sooo much better than buying it from the store. It has no high fructose corn syrup and is super fresh and juicy! Homemade applesauce is one of my favorite snacks!
Makes 2 cups
Items need for preparation:
- Cutting knife
- Food processor or potato masher
2 large apples, or as many as you want
- Cinnamon to taste
- 2 bananas, for a delicious variation!
- Honey (optional, but I don't think it needs it)
Step 1: Cut apples into the proper size to fit in food processor. If you're using a potato masher, cut into the smallest pieces to make mashing easy.
Step 2: Once your apples are saucy add your desired amounts of vanilla, cinnamon, and honey. Give it a taste before you add these, it already has a delicious sweet all natural flavor. I think it tastes great the way it is, but if you want it sweeter you can either add a little honey or buy better apples.
The apples oxidize and turn brown pretty fast so it is best to eat the applesauce right away. If you want to save some for later put it in an airtight container, with as little air inside as possible.
